Switching from Android to iPhone doesn’t have to be a difficult or stressful process. Thanks to our handy guide, you don’t have to worry about losing all your contacts, texts, photos and entire digital life! So, if you’ve decided to make the switch from Google to Apple, the process couldn’t be easier.
One thing to keep in mind is that the latest iPhones are impressive gadgets with beautiful designs, amazing cameras and intelligent technology. As a result, these devices are highly sought after. So, it’s important to make sure you’re insured against any accidental damage, loss or theft.
The team at Gadget Cover are insurance specialists and will be able to find the perfect policy for you and your new iPhone today.
Why would you switch from Android to iPhone?
While change can be daunting sometimes, for many people, it can be worth making the switch from Android to iPhone. Here are just some of the reasons you might decide to make the leap from Google to Apple:
1. Seamless compatibility
If you own other Apple devices, such as a Mac, you might want a phone that would work seamlessly alongside it. For example, taking advantage of features such as AirDrop and iCloud. As a result, owning all Apple devices allows you to benefit from these features fully.
2. iPhones retain their market value
While the latest iPhones tend to cost 10% more than the top Android brands, they also retain their market value for longer. Android phones often lose twice as much value in the first year of release in comparison to the iPhone. So, if you’re someone who regularly sells their phone to keep up with the latest devices, an iPhone might fetch you more money when trading in.
This is why insurance for iPhones is very important as owning these devices is a great asset that you want to protect against damage or theft. At Gadget Cover our insurance for iPhones covers repairs for any accidental damage, including minor screen cracks.
So, you can be confident your new iPhone is protected against butterfingers!
3. iPhones face fewer security risks
iPhone users face fewer security issues than Android users thanks to the App Store which doesn’t allow third-party apps, meaning the content available is secure. The regular iOS updates also boost Apple’s security offering, making it extremely difficult for viruses or hackers to infiltrate.
While Google does offer an impressive security system, the customisability of Android devices can make them more vulnerable to threats.
4. Larger selection of iPhone accessories
Walk into any tech store or supermarket and you’ll find a huge selection of accessories for every iPhone available. From Apple AirPods to cases and car mounts to screen protectors, there’s an accessory for all iPhone users out there. You won’t struggle to find anything for the latest iPhone while Android accessories aren’t quite as comprehensive.
Worried about losing expensive accessories? At Gadget Cover, the insurance for iPhones also covers accessories up to £150 that are lost, stolen or damaged at the same time as your device.
Is iPhone better than Android?
The iPhone vs. Android debate will always spark strong opinions from smartphone users. However, there is no one-size-fits-all smartphone as it depends entirely on what you’re looking for from your device. iPhones can suit users looking for an easy-to-use interface and a secure device that retains its value.
However, Androids are great for people searching for a more customisable device that offers flexibility and freedom of choice when it comes to the functionality of your smartphone.
If you’ve already decided to make the switch, then read on to find out how to transfer all your data.
Is it hard switching from Android to iPhone?
Apple and Google have made transferring from an Android to an iPhone a straightforward process. All you need is a Wi-Fi connection and both of your phones to hand. Thankfully, Apple has provided the Google Play Store with the Move to iOS app, which makes the process easier than ever.
How can I switch from Android to iPhone without losing everything?
Before starting your switch, you’ll want to make sure that all of your apps are up to date on your Android.
You can do this by checking the Google Play Store and clicking on any available updates for your installed apps. You should also make sure all your phone data is backed up and this can be done in Settings. This ensures that you’ll keep all your data in the rare case anything was to go missing. Lastly, make sure your new iPhone has enough storage space to store everything you’re switching over.
Now, you’re ready to make the switch!
How do I switch everything from my Android to my iPhone?
Here’s how to easily make the switch from Android to iPhone.
1. Download the Move to iOS app
On your Android device, open the Google Play Store and download the Move to iOS app, you’ll need to make sure you’re connected to Wi-Fi. It’s also a good idea to make sure both your Android and iPhone are plugged into chargers as you won’t want them to run out of battery halfway through the switch!
2. Start setting up your new iPhone
Now that you’ve downloaded the Move to iOS app on your Android, you can start setting up your new iPhone. Follow all the set-up prompts on your iPhone until you reach the page called ‘Apps & Data’. On this page you’ll see a list of options to transfer data, you’ll want to select ‘Move Data from Android’.
3. Enter the code
Once you select continue on the ‘Move Data from Android’ screen, a 10 or six-digit code should appear on your iPhone. Make sure you’ve got the Move to iOS app open on your Android device and you should be prompted to input the code provided on your iPhone.
During this process, your Android phone might warn you of a weak Wi-Fi signal but there’s no need to worry, this is due to your Android connecting over Wi-Fi to your iPhone.
4. Connect to a temporary Wi-Fi network
After entering the code, your iPhone will create a temporary Wi-Fi network. A pop-up should appear on your Android device asking you to join the network, tap Connect and wait for the data transfer screen to appear.
5. Choose the content you want to transfer from your Android to iPhone
On your Android device, you can now select what data you want to transfer and click Continue. You can choose to transfer your contacts, texts, photos and videos, files, settings, web bookmarks, email and calendars. Some free apps may also be transferred if they’re available on the App Store.
You can now leave both devices until the loading bar on your iOS device is full and the transfer has completed.
6. Finish setting up your iPhone
After the transfer of data from your Android to your iPhone is complete, you can finish setting up your new phone. The next step is to sign in with your Apple ID, this is used to access the App Store, iCloud and other Apple services. If this is your first iPhone, simply select ‘Forgot password or don't have an Apple ID?' and set up your account.
The next step is to turn on automatic software updates to ensure your iPhone is up to date. You can then set up Siri, which is Apple’s version of Google’s Google Assistant. Finally, you can set up screen time and other display options such as True Tone.
Remember, you can go back and adjust these settings at any time by clicking on the Settings app on your iPhone.
7. Make sure your new iPhone is insured
Now that your new iPhone is set up and you’ve switched over from your Android device, you’ll want to make sure you’ve got insurance to protect your iPhone. Gadget Cover’s insurance for iPhones can cover accidents like liquid damage, theft, loss and more. So, you don’t want to be caught short and damage your new device as soon as you get it without any insurance to cover you!
This should be the first thing you do when getting a new smartphone.
Questions to ask before switching from Android to iPhone
Are you still undecided as to whether to make the smartphone switch? Or you’ve made the switch but are an iPhone beginner? These are some things to keep in mind before you make the switch or transfer data.
Are my Android apps on the App Store?
The Google Play Store offers around 3.5 million apps whilst the App Store has around 2.2 million apps. This means that some of the apps you have on your Android device might not switch onto your iPhone as they aren’t available for iOS.
Apple is stricter on developers and they must pass certain criteria. Therefore, the App Store has tighter regulations and is smaller. So, make sure that your apps are available and be prepared that some may not switch over to your new iPhone.
Have I backed up my data on Android?
Before switching from an Android to an iPhone, you should make sure that any important data such as contacts, files and messages are all backed up. This means that you’ll always have a backup on your Android, just in case anything goes wrong in the switching process.
How long will it take to transfer my data from Android to iPhone?
Depending on how much data you’re transferring, it can take anything from a few minutes to a few hours. This is why it’s important to make sure both devices are plugged in and charging to avoid any problems with battery dying.
Will I lose all my contacts if I switch from Android to iPhone?
You won’t lose contacts if you follow our method described above by downloading and using the Move to iOS app on the Google Play Store. However, we would always recommend backing up your important contacts beforehand just in case.
Do you lose texts when switching from Android to iPhone?
Using the Move to iOS app, you will be able to transfer your Android text messages over to your iPhone. Again, it’s always wise to back up important text messages before you switch to ensure you have a copy of them.
Do I have insurance for iPhones?
When buying a new phone, it’s vitally important that it’s insured. The latest smartphones are expensive devices and you don’t want to risk theft or accidental damage without any insurance policy. So, the first thing you should do when switching from Android to iPhone or simply buying a new phone is to get it insured.
Top tips for switching from Android to iPhone
Whether you’re an iOS newbie or want some tips on what to do before the switch, these top tips are worth keeping in mind.
1. Back it up!
Always back up your data before switching phones, especially if you’re moving from one operating system to another. It will give you peace of mind when switching from Android to iPhone that all your data will be safe during the transfer.
2. You can still download Google apps
Just because you’ve made the switch away from Android doesn’t mean that you have to lose your favourite apps. Google does make apps that work on iPhones including Google Maps, Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Photos. You can simply re-download these apps onto your iPhone and log in using the same account you were using on your Android device.
3. iPhones have widgets too
Moving away from Android doesn’t mean waving goodbye to home screen customisation and widgets. Simply press and hold down on the home screen until a ‘+’ symbol appears in the top-left corner. You can then select what widgets to add to your home screen from photos to the clock, notes and maps, you have a wide range of customisation choices.
Smart Stack is also an option, allowing you to select a few widgets that will automatically rotate.
4. Personalise your iPhone
Everyone’s unique and at Gadget Cover, we believe our phones represent our digital selves! So, make your new iPhone personal to you by using Apple’s variety of settings to make your phone stand out from the crowd:
Wallpaper – You can set a unique wallpaper by clicking Settings > Wallpaper > Choose a New Wallpaper. You can select wallpaper for your lock screen and home screen from Apple’s designs or your images.
Ringtone – Don’t stick to a boring classic ringtone, make it your own by heading to Settings > Sounds > Ringtone and pick one that you can boogie to.
Home screen – Get creative with your home screen by creating different folders for apps and laying them out however works for you. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as an organised home screen.
Phone case – iPhones have a huge selection of different phone cases, from clear to colourful to personalised cases, there’s something for everyone. Not to mention it protects your phone if you drop it.
5. Protect your new phone
Take some time to research insurance for iPhones when switching to a new device. As the latest smartphones are so expensive, you don’t want to lose out by not protecting your new iPhone under an insurance policy. Whether you accidentally damage your device, or it gets stolen, you’ll have the peace of mind that you’re covered by a policy.
At Gadget Cover, we include worldwide cover in your iPhone insurance policy, meaning your iPhone is still insured anywhere in the world for up to 180 days a year.
6. Keep up with Apple’s software updates
Both Android and iPhones receive regular software updates. However, Google’s updates are slower to roll out as the updates are integrated into third-party builds. This means that they take longer to be tested and approved by the carrier.
Apple’s updates are immediately rolled out to all iPhones. All you need to do to update your iPhone is head to Settings > General > Software Update. You can also set up your iPhone to update automatically. These updates are important to maintain the security of your iPhone and to enjoy the latest features.
